Bath and England rugby star adds support to Marshfield Good Friday charity auction

Matt Banahan, the Bath Rugby and England star has lent his support to a charity auction in support of the fund raising efforts of former motocross rider, Mark Hucklebridge, being held at the Mike Brown memorial Good Friday motocross event at Marshfield near Chippenham Wilts.

A friend of Hucklebridge and many of the staff at MJ Church, the long established local firm that has supported the highly successful motocross rider for much of his career, Banahan is hoping that the traditionally strong crowd is bolstered further by those making a special trip to take part in a charity auction in aid of Bath Royal United Hospital's Forever Friends appeal.

Diagnosed with inoperable cancer, 35 year old Hucklebridge has dedicated himself to raising awareness and funds for the Royal United Hospital and its Forever Friends appeal, recently taking part in the Bath half marathon despite undergoing a course of chemotherapy.

The auction of a KX85 off-road motorcycle donated by Kawasaki Motors UK is taking place at the end of the day's action on 18 April at the Marshfield track. With bids also being taken via text leading up to the day, the expectation is that a significant sum will be accumulated for Mark's nominated charity.

Bath Rugby and England star, Matt Banahan, commented: “Illness is the enemy for sportsmen, and Mark's fight is inspirational. I am proud to support the Forever Friends appeal, and I hope to see as many people as possible at Marshfield on Good Friday bidding in the KX85 charity auction.”

Director of MJ Church Ltd, Tom Church added: “There is a bond between athletes, whatever discipline they pursue. We are delighted to gain Matt Banahan's support and it's great he's going to be with us on Good Friday.”
